I’ll Take A Split Against the Phillies
Bears fans know the joke that went on for years:
Who owns the Chicago Bears?
Brett Favre
Well, for many years now, you could make the same joke for the Cubs with the punch line being the Philadelphia Phillies. I first wrote about this in May of last year. Since 2002, the Cubs have only won one series against them. Ouch. Needless to say, I’m happy with a split. Plus, if we indeed make the playoffs, I’d rather not face them.
I always liked Jayson Werth with the Dodgers out here in LA. I was surprised they gave up on him so early. He simply terrorized us the last couple days.
That NL East race looks likely to come down to the wire. I’d guess Phillies, but you never know. The Mets will certainly have revenge no their minds.
Speaking of division races, the NL Central ain’t over either, folks. Back when we swept the Brewers, the statfucks awarded the Cubs the division while deciding the Brewers were unlikely to even win the wild card. Having more perspective than these idiots, I wrote:
Don’t think we’re finished with the Brewers. That’s a good team. They can really hit and the rotation’s solid. As with our club, I have the most concern for their defense.
Coincidentally, in the same article, I wrote the following:
I feel bad for Scott Eyre. I think he’s a good reliever. I truly believe that he has so much respect for the game and Lou Piniella in particular, that he never got comfortable playing for him. I will be the least surprised baseball fan on earth if Scott Eyre ends up pitching in the playoffs this year for another club… and pitches well.
The statheads were busy running him out of town. Scott Eyre hasn’t allowed a run since joining the Phillies.
It’s really amazing how quickly idiot statfag fans can turn on good players. You really have to wonder if these guys have ever held jobs in management. A guy struggles and they think he should immediately be traded or DFA’d. It demonstrates a complete lack of leadership and perspective.
One of my favorite lines from the imprudent, irrational idiots was during the post all-star break skid:
Worst bullpen I’ve ever seen assembled by the Cubs.
The Cubs currently have the 4th best bullpen in the NL and are 9th best overall. In 2005, the Cubs’ bullpen was 19th in baseball. 2004 – 15th. 2003 – 16th. 2002 – 25th. 2001 – 13th. 2000 – 26th. But ladies and gentlemen, thanks to sabrmetrics, we now know that the 2008 vintage, including Carlos Marmol and Kerry Wood is the worst bullpen of the last 30 years. Unbelievably hilarious.

I’ll conclude in saying that I hope Zambrano’s arm is okay. I hope we’re simply resting him for the long haul. And yet, because this division isn’t in the bag, I hope the Cubs aren’t thinking they’ve got the playoffs in the bag, period. After all, these are your Chicago Cubs, masters of demise.
