More to come later…    as for the first time, our MVP…   our most valuable player is….    the manager?
Yes!

Defense & Baseball – The Milwaukee Brewers

September 28, 2007

Thank god we in the Cubs blog world have Maddog at www.cubsblog.net to teach us that defense at most affects a team’s record by one or two games per year.  I don’t know what we’d do without him.  Tell this to the Milwaukee Brewers.  I guess last night was one of their two games.  Idiot.
Earlier [...]

Uy uy uy… The Fucking Florida Marlins

September 27, 2007

Fucking christ.  The Marlins are always at their best when a majority of baseball fans wish they’d disappear.
I wish Lou had pinch hit for JJ with bases loaded in the 7th.  Pinto was wild and we needed discipline.  It would have been a good time for Kendall.
I really wish Theriot hadn’t hit into a double [...]

Tonight’s Lineup & Run Differential

September 26, 2007

I like tonight’s lineup.  I wish we would stick to Soriano, Theriot, Lee, Floyd, and Aramis, regardless of what follows.
For all the Run Differential fans out there, it’s interesting to note that the Cubs have a better differential than the Mets, Phillies, Brewers, and Diamondbacks.  We trail the Braves, Padres, and Rockies:

Rockies  -  +84
Braves  -  [...]

Exciting Time For Baseball

September 26, 2007

Wow, who’d have thought we could reach the Wednesday before season’s end…   and not a single National League playoff spot is claimed?  Amazing.  The Arizona Diamondbacks currently have the best record in the league at 88-69, yet still haven’t even clinched the wild card!
It’s like the playoffs have pretty much already begun.  It’s do or [...]

It’s Time For The 2007 Edition of “25 Guys”!!! || “Playing For Pride”

September 25, 2007

Two Quick Items:
We’ve arrived at the time of year when every player on a playoff bound team starts saying, “25 Guys”.  I guarantee that between now and the conclusion of the World Series, you’re going to hear “25 Guys” A LOT.
“This team is 25 guys.  It’s been this way all year long.”
“It’s a different guy [...]

The Magic Number is 4! || A Tale of Two Chicago Cubs Teams

September 24, 2007

While most Cubs bloggers were crying about the Cubs facing lefty pitchers over the weekend, I simply waited to see what happened.  It’s amazing in this day and age of VORP how many people think games are decided in advance instead of by players on the field.
The Cubbies have gotten hot at the right time, [...]

The Magic Number is 6!

September 22, 2007

Boy, the Cubs have sure found the right time of year for a power surge. That’s a good thing.
This race ain’t over yet, but we’re in a good position now. Meaning, we’re either headed towards the playoffs… or a titanic collapse even by Cubs standards. There’s no turning back [...]

Chicago Cubs Win A Slug Fest || More On Recent Catching History || Geovany Soto CAN Play In The Playoffs

September 21, 2007

Every year, Wrigley Field is home to some major slug fests.  When the wind blows out, you may as well be at Coors Field circa 1995…   or the new park in Philly.  The last couple of years, the Cubs seemed to lose the high scoring games at home.
It’s nice that we won one today.  The [...]

Houston Astros Hire Ed Wade? Great!

September 21, 2007

This guy presided over some very talented Phillies teams that never made the playoffs.  He hired and supported a manager, Larry Bowa, who got the least out of his teams and whose players hated him.  He clashed with Curt Schilling and traded him away.  (World Series Count:  Schilling Two, Wade Zero).
And now he’s suddenly being praised for [...]
